Educators working with middle and high school students likely are aware of the explosive interest and involvement of youth in such online sites such as Facebook, Twitter and MySpace etc. These sites are a new phenomenon called social networking sites. This new technology carries much weight as a new medium for students to build social connections and grow as members of their institutions. In online social networking environments, people register and establish profiles that provide personal information and photos. Then, they make connections or links with other members who share interests or connections.
