From the first real graphic demonstration of it's power, the atom has developed (thankfully) into many less dramatic roles. But not without the same hazards it had before, those of radiation exposure to those who come in contact with it, and contamination of the environment where it may be released. Only through proper training of people who work with it, or who may be in authority over these undertakings, can we manage the risks and hold them in check. This book is not written specifically for engineers or scientists.
