As a parent, I want to talk WITH my children. I don't want to lecture, and I really want to listen. I want to know what's going on in the lives of my precious family. But time, screens, uncomfortableness, and other interests seem to always get in the way. I've tried some 'conversation starters' before, but with little success. Then it came to me - write a book with my child! This isn't a typical book, but rather a book that is extremely meaningful. Or, full of meaning. The book belongs to the child, but is co-written by a parent and a child. This particular version is written with 'tweens' in mind. The 10/11 to 13 age group. There are three sections in the book. The first section is comprised of questions that the tween answers. The second section includes shared activities, between the child and parent. The third section are questions that the parent answers. Either the child or the parent starts the book by answering a question, then passes the book along to the other, and he/ she answers a question. Back and forth it goes, until all of the questions are answered. This is a great way for parents to know what their tween is thinking and experiencing. It's also a good way to share life lessons without being preachy. The middle section includes questions and activities that the parent and tween participate in together.
