Directional antennas have the ability to improve transport capacity by decreasing the interference of a directional main lobe, increase coverage range due to a higher SINR (Signal Interference to Noise Ratio) and reduce power consumption. However, directly and mathematically establishing the relationship between network performance and antenna configurations has proven extremely difficult, if not intractable. This book proposes several clustering-based methods to obtain approximate solutions for heterogeneous antenna configuration problems which can significantly improve network performance.
