From the May 1801 founding of the Supreme Council to the present day, Fox (historian/archivist of the Supreme Council) explores the institutional history of the largest Masonic jurisdiction currently existing in the world. In exploring the makeup of the Masons, he links social and cultural developments in the lodge to prevailing arrangements in the United States and argues that Masonic developments in turn profoundly influenced the histories of nearby fraternal and public institutions.
