This report summarizes available and prospective instrumentation for application to dump monitoring with emphasis on mountain dumps. The report describes instrumentation for movement, pressure, pore pressure and other physical measurements of the state of the dump, as well as data acquisition, transmission and reduction hardware and software. Common mistakes in specification and installation of frequently used instrumentation types are discussed. Recommendations are given for instrumentation for different classes of dumps relative to the B.C. Dump Guidelines classification scheme.
