This study compares life satisfaction among recent immigrants in Canada with life satisfaction in their country of origin and with the Canadian-born population, and provides an evaluation of the role that national-level economic and social factors play in immigrants' life satisfaction. This paper is organized into five sections. Section 2 summarizes the literature on the relationship between national conditions and life satisfaction. Studies comparing immigrants' life satisfaction with that of their source-country and host-country populations are also reviewed. Section 3 describes the data, measures and methods used in the analysis. Descriptive and multivariate results are presented in Section 4. A discussion of the results in a broader context is provided in Section 5.--Document.
