This is a story about my mum and how she has influenced and continues to inspire several generations of a family........Mum's story is extraordinary and is about a person who has lived an exceptional and long life, starting in 1922 post World War 1 Germany, straddling the birth and rise of the Nazi party and Hitler Germany, through the horrifying years of World War II and war torn Germany, then immediately after, moving to England as a young twenty five year old woman to marry an English soldier, to start a new life and raise a family.......There was a particular aura about Husarenstrasse 8, this small old fashioned terraced, three storey apartment building. It possessed things that were then unfamiliar to us, and to coin a much used phrase that we learnt from mum, we were 'on the continent', which immediately made it different, and of course, by her inference, an awful lot better! She seldom actually used the word 'better', but there was a certain melodic cadence in the superior way she articulated the words 'on the continent' that just absolutely oozed the inference.
