Author Description

Prose Pieces is a reader that features three or more selections,each from 16 distinguished twentieth-century writers such as E. M. Forster,D. H. Lawrence,Virginia Woolf,George Orwell,Alice Walker,Margaret Atwood,and Tom Wolfe. Because of its design and selections,Prose Pieces offers a more in-depth study of a writer's style,voice,strategies and ideas than most other texts. A fictional piece by each writer (except Dillard) is included so that students can consider the similarities and differences between fiction and nonfiction. Pedagogy includes a general introduction on writing and reading,headnotes,discussion questions,writing suggestions and two alternate tables of contents (thematic and rhetorical).
