In Anarchy County is a humorous, politically charged novel that continues the tradition of Edward Abbey's The Monkey Wrench Gang. As Abbey's subversive novel, about rescuing the American Southwest from development through sabotage, brought the environmental group Earth First! into existence, so this novel explores the radical offshoot of that group, the Earth Liberation Front: the #1 domestic terrorist threat to the nation as claimed the FBI in 2005. Though to clarify: the Earth Liberation Front has never murdered anyone. Instead of sitting in a tree and hoping the loggers will give up, the ELF will blow up the logging trucks until they leave. Furthermore, some would say it's ludicrous to call this group's ecoterrorism the #1 threat to our country. Thus bringing us to the back-to-earth anarchists, feminists, and new agers of Rouge River Farm in southern Oregon who do not support the steamroller of corporate farming, genetic engineering, governmental coercion, and capitalist culture at large. But they don't all know exactly how to fight such powerful forces in the world. Three young anarchist farmers, fans of the ELF, decide to lead the charge by burning down a field of genetically modified corn. However, not everyone on the farm agrees with these methods and this action sparks heavy consequences for the small organic farming movement across the country. The FBI roused and the ELF becoming involved, these farmers will now have to best place themselves behind their beliefs as possible. A romp of radical politics from all sides of the spectrum from the start, and the clashing of youth subcultures whether they be anarchist, hippie, punk, hipster, or a mixture of all four, will challenge you to take a side, and then, hopefully, take action.
