This book is divided into two main sections: Part 1 - offers a review and analysis of the influence of failures on engineering design, teaching and construction practice. This highlights the way in which design practice has been developed as research and code revision have followed failures. Part 2 - contains case study 'datasheets' on a specific failures and on particular collapse modes which have frequently lead to failures. These datasheets condense lengthy reports into a standard format to highlight lessons from both catastrophic and expensive failures of structures to be fit for purpose.
