"Unsafe abortion is a significant yet preventable cause of maternal mortality and morbidity. The gravity and global incidence of unsafe abortion call for a better understanding of the factors behind the persistence of unsafe abortion and of the barriers to preventing unsafe abortion and managing its consequences.
