
Intimate agony: Hugo von Hofmannsthal's poetics of pain Short description: The volume makes a total of fourteen texts Hofmannsthal the subject of the investigation. The treated texts extend to the youth and late works of the poet and span a period of more than three decades; they are also many different fields and include lyrical dramas, stories and tragedies, as well as pieces of dance. The text analyzes are bundled into four thematic groups, each having specific pain issues in focus, namely pain in the failure of desire conception, pain in the emotional environment, pain in body signs, pain in the failure of lucky conception. There is the risk trying to explore a variety of types of pain, and the pain in his term psychosomatic totality in each text contextualizes fathom. The literary presence of pain at the factory Hofmannsthal has so far been examined explicitly neither in its holistic structure nor in terms of its textual procedure.
