In our ruggedly individualistic culture, it’s not readily apparent that other people are a quintessential part of our identity. As a result, we can easily forget just how critical others are to our calling. As image-bearers of a Triune God, we need other people to help us understand and realize the redemptive work God has set before us. Who are the others in my life? What role do they play in my life? What calling has God given me regarding these people? These are vital questions that help clarify a larger vision of God’s calling for us. As we think about the people in our lives, it’s natural to start with our own families–those who raised us during our formative years. How did growing up in your family shape how you view and respond to others? It’s easy to overlook how powerfully our own stories influence the way we treat the people who surround us today. To put it in stark contrast, we can either look to others as people we are called to love and serve or view others as those who will further our self-serving interests. One path leads the world to see God’s awe-inspiring glory and the other a degrading diminution of His image. As we journey for two weeks, we must wrestle with what God is calling us to do in light of the injustices that continue to prevail in our day. God is calling us toward something new, to allow the world to see His glorious reflection in all people. May we see how only together with others will we be able to accomplish the glorious things that God has set before us. This workbook is meant to be done in conjunction with Goldenwood's Trellis Program and will provide the daily and weekly rhythms for this two-week listening journey.
