The Graded Objectives in Modern Languages (GOML) approach has contributed to the reform and development in the teaching of modern languages in the United Kingdom during the past 10 years. The introduction of shorter-term goals has revolutionized the way in which many teachers think about what should be taught to their students, and how it should be taught. This book first presents articles and reports from the GOML in-service training course, July 1990, and then gives reviews and reports from GOML groups throughout the country. The in-service training reports are given in two sections, one on responses to the educational reform act and the other on methodology and materials. Specific chapters are as follows: "Graded Objectives and the National Curriculum" (B. Page); "Languages and the Educational Reform Act: A Head Teacher's Perspective" (C. Lowe); "Accepting the Challenge: Modern Languages, GOML and the National Curriculum--A Policy for the 1990s" (group session); "Languages and Learners with Difficulties" (P.
