Trevor Todd has played in the NHL for twelve years. Today he found out Aaron Taylor, his best friend and teammate, announced his retirement from the game without telling him. Trevor is hurt and confused. He'd always thought they'd leave the game together. His friends helpfully remind him of the choices he'd made when they were rookies. He doesn't need his friends; he has the nightmares that regularly take him back. They'd hooked up when they were in junior hockey. Trevor fell hard for Aaron but playing for different teams separated them. When Trevor and Aaron are drafted by the same professional team, Trevor is forced to admit he isn't ready to come out to the world and makes the choice to be friends. Now Trevor is faced with the reality of losing Aaron and he doesn't know if he can stop it.
