About the Author Born in Mauritius, Roseline NgCheong-Lum spent the first 20 years of her life on the island, making friends with and learning from all the various ethnic groups that make up the country. These formative years have instilled in her a deep interest in peoples and their cultures. After graduating from Oxford University, she worked as a teacher in a large Mauritian secondary school, sharing her love for literature with her pupils. In 1988, she moved to Singapore where she became an editor, continuing her association with books. Roseline has lived in England, the United States and Thailand, and has travelled to almost every region in the world. She now lives in Singapore with her husband and two daughters. She spends at least one month every year in Mauritius, taking in the sights, sounds and smells of her beloved country.
