Concepts are at the very heart of language and poorly defined concepts inhibit research for the advancement of knowledge, analysis to understand a phenomenon better and social debate to decide which policies are preferable. In order to improve this, we need well defined concepts to increase the clarity of our understanding and the quality of our decisions. This book explores the construction of concepts, the problems that arises when they are not well defined, and how to refine them.
