This is an account of the year Barb Bland spent in France, learning to speak the language, living in a new (to her!) culture, traveling by bicycle, letting go of her bobby socks, making new friends, and (once) getting absolutely schnoggered on delicious green wine… The year was a turning point in Barb’s life—and, ultimately, in the lives of her parents and siblings and even some nieces and nephews. Living mainly in France from 1962 to ’63, this young American woman learned so much more than how to speak French. Because of that adventure, six years later she was able to lead her mother and aunt on a journey to France to connect with a half-brother they had never before met.
