In Book Three, GRID - Cultural Awakening, company founder and author, Michael McFerrin, provides a chronological narrative of his continuing experiences in the military where his interpreting capability comes into play. He lives with, and becomes an advisor to, the Vietnamese people in a small village deep in the countryside. He forms and trains a military unit to protect the villagers from the terroristic rule of Communists in North Vietnam, as well as to wage war on the North Vietnamese Army as they move on their infiltration routes. The experience gives him an in-depth view of the civilian population's struggle just to exist while dreaming of giving their children a chance at a better life through education and hard work.
