The village began to grow in 1869 when the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad constructed its Metropolitan Branch. Where the Potomac and Monocacy Rivers meet was the small community of Mouth of Monocacy.... Oakland Mills was located on the Baltimore Road, a path from Loudoun Co., Virginia, through Mouth of Monocacy, Barnesville, Clarskburg and on to Baltimore....
