Aninfamous scandal culminated in a couple of lofty swings and Mr Darcy was thrown into the cold, murky water of his lake... Darcy was loath to leave Hertfordshire three days after the bewitching Miss Elizabeth accepted his hand. Yet, he must return to Pemberley as the executor of his neighbour’s will. To avoid separating, he invites the Bennet family, and Mr Bingley, to Derbyshire. Elizabeth admires Mr Darcy’s compassion for the bereaved widow, as he spends most of his days trying to determine the baronet’s successor. In the shadows of his absence, she is left much to her own thoughts and the influence of others. After Mr Darcy’s involuntary dip in the lake—his mortification renders him even more taciturn and unsociable. A rejection in his youth had turned Mr Darcy into a reserved and cautious man, who guarded his emotions from public display. Elizabeth must determine whether he is cold and aloof, or if passion burns beneath his austere mien. The Shadows of Absence is an emotional Regency era Pride and Prejudice variation, that ends in a happily ever after for our dear couple. This work of fiction is created entirely from the author’s imagination. At no point in this body of work has Artificial Intelligence (AI) been employed to write it.
