Rotimi Fani-Kayodé and Alex Hirst created a photographic world in which the body is the focal site for an exploration of the relationship between erotic fantasy and acnestral spiritual values. What they brought back from their travels into such nocturnal spaes are glimpses into a world illuminated by the ancient enigma of something so violent, so marvelous and so tragic as to be unrepresentable: the human experience of ecstacy. Rotimi Fani-Kayodé was born in Nigeria in 1955. He died in London in December 1989. Alex Hirst was born in U.K. in 1951 and died in Autumn 1992. Their common career spanned a mere six years.
