During the late eighteenth and early nineteenth century Britain's population grew rapidly as the country became urbanized and industrialized. Shops, shopkeepers, and shopworkers also increased in number at this time to provide and sell to the expanding population. This book tells the story of the people who worked in the retail trade during this period.
