Author Description

This novel is based on a history I wrote some years ago about the life of my family from the late 19th Century to the early years of the 21st. The events that take place are as I and other family members now long dead remember them, although names have been changed where felt appropriate to avoid the possibility of embarrassment or distress to any descendants who might read this book. I was encouraged to convert a family history to a novel by some of my family who were astonished at what life was like for ordinary families before and after the first World War, how the British Army operated at the end of Empire in its colonies, the ups and downs of living and working in six different countries for both British and American Corporations, plus the trials and tribulations of building a small business or working as a consultant for other firms where experience gained elsewhere could contribute to their success.As it was my own life passing by while this happened, it all - both the funny and serious - seemed perfectly normal, but with hindsight it dawned on me that what I saw as an ordinary life could be seen as a quite extraordinary one by a younger generation brought up in a very different world with very different standards and the benefit of amazing technology that passes information around at terrifying speed to countless millions of people. It is thanks to that technology this novel can be published so easily and at so little cost in a form which allows it to find its own level in the marketplace.Whether sales are measured on one hand or in their thousands I hope all who do get to read it enjoy it as much as I enjoyed writing it.
