Derek Strange joins the police force in 1968 hoping to make a difference in a white man's world. Many of his own kind feel that he's a traitor. Then Martin Luther King is assassinated and it seems that the whole country will fall into the abyss. Derek, his family, and his whole community find themselves in the midst of a battle for the heart and soul of this new world as the violent side of the civil rights movement comes upon America in a volcanic fury.
