Author Description

Henry Lewis Whitfield was born near Brandon, Mississippi, in 1868, the son of Robert Allen and Mollie Fitzhugh Whitfield. He married Mary Dampeer Whitte, daughter of Dr. William White. He was a school teacher, school principal, State Superintendent of Education, president of the Mississippi Industrial Institute and College, and Governor of the state of Mississippi from 1923 until his death in 1927.
