In a small town like Sanderford everybody knew everyone else and all their business. There weren't many crimes committed, let alone murders, so when nasty bully, Henry Burrows met his fate there were suspects galore. Solving the case was a tortuous journey, especially as the two detectives assigned to case were calm, long-serving, play-it-by-the-book, Stuart McPherson, and aggressive, get-a-confession-from-a-dead-man, Alan (Fearsome) Pearson.
