I see my South die a little more every day. This is the South of my childhood I am talking about. Folks can say all day long that Little Dixie, AKA southeastern Oklahoma ain't the South. Come spend a couple of hours with my blood, in our world, and you'll choke down those words and ask for seconds. The way we talk, our food, our love of the wild hunt and our stubborn refusal to shake off our superstitions, are pure and undiluted Southern. Not the Stars and Bars, not the white hoods and nooses hanging from trees, not the blasted wastelands of trailer parks. My South is about pride. Pride in our land. Pride in our bloodlines. For all of our individual shadows, pride.
