Two roof wards and thirteen additional balconies for the medical pavilions, A and B, were begun in November, and will furnish means for giving open-air treatment to all the patients in these pavilions. Plans and specifications have been prepared by the architects for pavilions F and G, the next section of the new hospital to be constructed. Second--The equipment of the new laundry building was completed in July. The opening of this building for use has enabled us to reorganize and centralize the entire laundry service of the hospital, as well as that of the School for Midwives and the Training School for Nurses. Third--The grounds have been graded and laid out in lawns,and trees have been planted on the adjoining streets. Throughout the summer and auaumn the bed patients, both medical and surgical, have been rolled out on to the grass, where they have greatly enjoyed and profited by the fresh air and the breezes from the river. At Gouverneur and Harlem trees have been planted on all the streets about the hospital. Fourth--The School for Midwives, which was established in July of last year, has progressed very satisfactorily. Twenty-five midwives have been graduated from the school, after completing a six months' course of thorough theoretical and practical instruction. The number of both pupils and patients is steadily increasing, and more room is required for their accommodation. Fifth--Dr. Charles Norris, the Director of Laboratories, reports that the Pathological Department has had a very successful year in its new building.
