The Smoky Head-White Bluff Area of Natural and Scientific Interest (ANSI) is one of the significant life science natural areas identified in 1976 in the Niagara Escarpment Plan Area. In the 1992 and 1993 field seasons, a detailed biological inventory and evaluation of the ANSI was carried out involving 47 person days of field work. This report describes the physical background of the region and the regional context of vegetation, flora, and fauna; the vegetation, flora and floristics, and fauna of the Smoky Head-White Bluff area; and planning considerations, including an evaluation of the ANSI, its significant features, and recommendations. Lists of vascular plants, mosses and liverworts, birds, mammals, and amphibians and reptiles are given along with a description of the methodology and the Niagara Escarpment vegetation community classification system.
