Ulie and his family live in an unhealthy, hard jungle setting ruled by a despotic leader who uses the entire village for his own advantage and wealth. Our story opens with the coming out ceremony for the eleven-year-old boys of the village. At that time they become full-fledged men of the village and learn to live on their own. This is when all of Ulie's troubles begin and he wonders if being a man of the village really is worth it. Against the rules Ulie secretly leaves the village and discovers a clean, wonderful city and determines to take the whole village away to a live in this place called the City of Light. Thus begins adventure and danger for Ulie, his family, and the village, as well. However, before the village will come, he must first convince his own father to come to this better place.
