"Mantle of beauty is a large-scale installation inspired by a range of religious influences, and features both garments and objects created in association with Australian and Asian artisans. Patrons are taken on a journey of exploration and, through motifs of spirituality, ritual, adornment and ceremony, are given the chance to reflect on the transcendent and unifying nature of beauty. The five pavillions in the installation embody fundamental preoccupations including the experience of self-examination, the relationship between humanity and the natural world, the world as reflection of the infinite, and the essence of beauty. These elements are also reflected in the ritual of the tea ceremony, which can be both familiar and exotic, exhilarating and calming".--Inside cover.
