
Henry Cooke (1788-1868) was born in Grillagh in Northern Ireland and was a boy when the Maghera and the countryside was torn apart by the rebellion of 1798. These events affected his views for the rest of his life as he was an outspoken unionist until his death. He studied at Kells and entered into the ministry where he was respected and influential among Presbytarians. He was married and the father of at least one daughter who resided in Belfast.
