Analytical study on the history of the more than 120 public museums under the coordination of the Instituto Nacional de Antropología e Historia (INAH), the present study is the historic reference of important and solid cultural spaces in Mexico and their relevance in the development of a national identity. Author Lorenza del Río, director of the Museo Casa de Carranza, highlights "the museums in Mexico are different from those of other countries, they are not integrated with the exportation of pieces of documents from aboard, their collections comprise objects created and found in our country, that is why these spaces are so relevant, they hold a larger part of the cultural patrimony of the nation." INAH coordinates a network of over a 120 museums all over the country.
