A Typology of Education Systems proposes a framework for conceptualizing ‘education programmes’ to enable in-depth exploration and critical reflection on the values, practices and structures of education systems now and in the future. In contrast to previous frameworks that have dealt with segments of education, the authors develop a holistic framework to enable comparisons between educational systems. Using this framework they explore the diversity of current provision and consider future developments between and within existing and possible education systems. Theorised key dimensions for distinguishing different ‘education programmes’ are developed and used to examine and exemplify the opportunities and tensions. Responses to key online questions provided by students and senior management will be analysed to explore the values, practices and structures of their setting. This process will illustrate the dimensions of the typology and demonstrate its power as an analytical tool before provoking thinking about what may be possible in future education systems. >
