
The Banking Act 1987 fundamentally changed the nature of banking supervision and regulation in the UK. The old distinction between recognized banks and licensed deposit takers has gone, and the Bank of England is to undertake closer scrutiny of auditing requirements, capital adequacy and general business strategy.
