Abstract: Abstract of thesis entitled Management Innovation in Public Light Bus - Green Minibus in Hong Kong Submitted by CHEUNG Kwok-wai for the degree of Master of Arts in Transport Policy and Planning at The University of Hong Kong In June 2007 Hong Kong has a highly developed and sophisticated transport network served by a variety of transport modes. Within our public transport system, Public Light Bus (PLB) is the third largest mode of transport carrier and with a daily passenger volume of about 1.8 million. However, in the past few years, there are many negative issues within the trade regarding their services quality, services standard, safety, driving behaviour as well as a series of the enforcement actions from the Government for the PLBs. From the point of view of helping the trade, this dissertation is set out to examine their problems and to make recommendations on how the trade could be better structured to achieve better service and efficiency. As PLB is an important mode, Government should be encouraging the trade to perform effectively in meeting passenger expectations and in accordance with Government policy to provide a supplementary mode of transport to rail and buses. Hong Kong is served by a steady group of PLB operators and franchised bus companies.
