The Idiot project obliquely attempts to rediscover the communicative power of mark-making via subconscious or at least semi-conscious means. I say that Idiot operates obliquely because the project is, if nothing else, intentionally unintentional. And so Obscurity extends the paradoxical activity that the Idiot project began. In the context of this publication, the word "obscurity", while formally a noun (a state of being), implies a more complex construction: an action (the act of obscuring) applied to something known (an object) to achieve a new state (Obscurity). This willful obfuscation of something is the primary activity of the Idiot collaborator. Theoretically, then, we may reverse-engineer any one of these artifacts to reveal a communicative, stable object. We may peel back layers of the Idiot designer's intent to hide, uncovering a truth that returns us to an idealized state. And if we truly were able to scrape away the deception and reveal the object of idiocy, what would we find? Only the Idiot designer knows.
