Since the end of the Second World War, the concept of the exclusive economic zone (EEZ) has developed from the desire of a growing number of nations to extend their authority over vast maritime areas, primarily for the purpose of controlling resources. One of the first volumes in the series Oxford Monographs in International Law, this book studies the development of the EEZ, its scope and effects, and its relationship to other aspects of law.
