
Abstract: A practical guide to nutrition counseling provides basic nutrition concepts of a normal balanced diet to be discussed with all clients; and specific descriptions of special diets. Directions are given on collection of dietary information from patients, construction of personal diet plans, reinforcing client's knowledge with assignments, quizzes and references, and follow-up techniques such as handouts on menu selection, risk factors, activity records, etc. Special nutrition needs are covered for vegetarians, infants, and pregnant women, and in dental health, weight control, diabetes, hypoglycemia, hyperlipidemias, sodium restrictions, peptic ulcer disease, nutritional anemias, and high fiber diets.
