Charles Conder likely not a familiar name for those of us who occasionally dabble in the art scene. Well be shocked as Condor called a number of lets say familiar names from the art world were part of the same circle: Oscar Wilde, Aubrey Beardsley and Henri Toulouse-Lautrec.Born London, England 24 Oct 1868 Died London, England 09 Feb 1909 Charles Conder primarily chose subjects and scenes at a great distance from the bustle of England's London. Conder returned to England, the country of his birth, in 1890, having established himself as one of the founders of the Heidelberg School of Australian impressionist Painting. Conder was regarded as a member of the fin de siecle bohemian set, More recognizable artists, and likely familiar names: among his intimates Oscar Wilde, well perhaps you have not heard of Aubrey Beardsley and Henri Toulouse-Lautrec, I am sure this name rings a familiar tone.,ol> In his late work Conder favoured romantic aestheticism, earning most fame for his decorative watercolours on silk. As with a number of other late 19th-century artists in France, Conder created a number of fan designs on silk between 1893 and 1905. These images were inspired by contemporary literature with reference to 18th century imagery.
