This report is about the 7.4 magnitude earthquake that struck the western, industrial heartland of Turkey along the northernmost strand of the North Anatolian fault system, one of the most active plate boundaries in the world. It caused more than 17,000 deaths, thousands of injuries, and left more than 500,000 homeless. This 474-page volume covers the topics of seismicity, fault rupture, tsunami, strong motion, ground failure and geotechnical effects, structures and industrial facilities, building code enforcement, lifelines, and societal impacts and emergency response. The contributions of many individuals and organizations to this collective reconnaissance effort greatly enhanced the success of the mission and the thoroughness and completeness of this report. Included with the report is an 18? x 36? color Regional Fault Rupture Map.
