Expressing Our Heritage, the long-awaited follow-up to the immensely popular study print series Where Two Words Meet, is a collection of 50 gallery-quality prints showcasing the ageless beauty of traditional Métis clothing and accessories. This series of prints and accompanying exhibition book demonstrates how this artistic tradition, long ignored in the historical record, was an integral component of Métis identity and cultural expression. Authored by Cheryl Troupe and assisted by the talents of a diverse range of academics and community people, Expressing Our Heritage is the first synthesis of traditional Métis clothing to date, and contains dozens of rare photographs of artifacts from collections in Europe and North America. Covering 28 topics, the 50 prints outline the traditional clothing, accessories andadornment of the Métis. Many of the photographs in the print collection have never been widely viewed by the public. The accompanying exhibition book contains maps, a glossary, biographies, further back ground reading, an extended bibliography and activities for further review.
