"In Texas school, photography falls under one of four curriculum areas: art, photojournalism, vocational education, and career and technology education. Those programs are as diverse as the state itself. Since 1990, the Association of Texas Photography Instructors has worked with students and with instructors in the more than 4,900 high schools and middle schools in the state to achieve a higher quality of knowledge and teaching of photography. The 2021 ATPI Fall photo contest had more than 4,800 entries from throughout the state as well as from California, Florida, Idaho, Illinois, Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma and Guam. Instructors from 23 states have attended the Summer Workshop that ATPI started in 1994--for instructors only. Almost 300 students attend the Winter Conference each year to learn about darkroom skills, working in a studio and the latest technology. This book is a testimony to the quality of the work being produced by student photographers and their instructors throughout the state. Filled with images selected from almost 35,000 images submitted in ATPI contest during the past five years, it will be a resource for photographers throughout the world -- not merely in Texas -- for years to come." -- Provided by publisher.
