Long ago, the birds and beasts were always at war over the food. The little bat looked part bird, part beast, and used this to trick both sides out of food and gifts in their Ninth Great War. Finally, the birds and beasts made peace, and took away all the bat had cheated from them -- leaving him bald and hanging upside-down in his pitch-black cave.
