"Painted Ponies" is a celebration of the magic and joy that these whirling fantasies of armored chargers, galloping Indian ponies, fiery military steeds and magical menagerie figures have brought to all of us. Now recognized as vanishing treasures, the last of these classic, wooden carousels were carved in the 1920s by immigrant craftsmen. A handful of artists were responsible for creating a dazzling art from which has entertained, thrilled and fascinated generations of Americans.
