The nature of work is rapidly changing. Excellence in manufacturing and marketing is no longer enough to succeed in today's complex and fast-moving marketplace. To survive and thrive, companies must develop and draw upon the talents of a new breed of worker: the knowledge worker. Knowledge workers differ from users of knowledge--they create knowledge as well which leads to more efficient business operations. Written in co-operation with Andersen Consulting, Knowledge workers revealed draws upon the findings of the first in-depth research into the nature of knowledge work. In mid 1994 Andersen Consulting and the Australian Graduate School of Management initiated a three and a half year study into the future world of work. This study, called the Knowledge Worker Project, included extensive qualitative and quantitative research among major companies around the world. Knowledge workers revealed shares the results and lessons of the Knowledge Worker Project. The report offers a vision of the future workforce and what will set successful companies apart from the also-rans.
