
This guide is intended to assist those responsible for publicizing local adult literacy and basic skills programs. The first section discusses the elements of good publicity. Outlined next are points to consider when determining what a program needs from publicity and how to get the desired results. The next portion of the guide covers seven main areas involving the following different types of publicity: the printed word, events, audiovisual resources, personal contact and liaison, the press, local radio, and television. Each section considers the advantages and disadvantages of the particular methods and estimates the time and monetary costs involved. Where appropriate, the sections on using each specific publicity method are divided into the headings of preparation, action, and follow-up.
