This book provides an introduction to advanced manufacturing processes using new energy sources, with an emphasis on the energy-beam processing of materials. The advantage of this technique is related to several factors: alternative machining equipment may be unavailable, especially for brittle substances; they offer very high precision; they may be the only way to achieve certain effects, for example the doping of semiconductors with ion-beams. The authors review the fundamental energy considerations for any energy-beam technique, then examine the techniques and their applications individually.
